Paris Day 12: more dead people....

Genna and I stop in a Montparnasse park to take selfies.

We thought we were going to begin Sunday with a tour of the Catacombs. It opened at 10 AM and we arrived at 10:30 to find a very long line snaking around the corner. I didn't realize so many people wanted wanted to look at bones underground. Bob made it clear he was NOT willing to stand in that line. After talking to the catacomb guards, I determined it would be much less crowded during the week.
Lucky for us it is close to our flat and so is the Montparnasse Cemetery. This seems to be the trip to see cemeteries. Bob and I wandered about finding unusual and famous graves.
While Genna headed off to a cafe to sit and enjoy.

This is probably the most famous grave here although its residents are not that well know to us. Charles Pigeon and his wife recline in their bed with an angel above them.

We met Genna for lunch at Le Petit Cafe behind St. Etienne Du Mont.

We enjoyed a leisurely lunch with the blooming trees and other Sunday diners.

Bob says this cider was better.

Norwegian Salad

French onion soup.

Genna wanted to go inside the Pantheon to see the huge murals of the life of St. Genevieve. The dome is being renovated so we did not take any photos of the outside, its dome is covered by a large white cap.
Inside the Pantheon.

St. Genevieve on her deathbed.

Joan of Arc receiving her vision.
Great view from the Pantheon looking toward the Eiffel Tower.
We had forgotten that EVERYTHING is closed on Sunday in Paris, that is all grocery stores, bakeries, cheese shops. All of us spent time pounding the pavement searching for food. Bob was out of coffee, I wanted cheese and bread for dinner, we needed yogurt for breakfast the next morning. Genna and I finally found an Asian Fusion restaurant that had takeout. We were happy for an evening in with hot food we didn't have to fix. In retrospect, it is very civilized to have real days off for shopkeepers and our own 24-7 culture is crazy.
