Paris: day 6, Montmartre

We began today with a metro ride to the base of Montmartre, so called mount of the martyrs. Place du Tetre is the heart of this area with its artists and restaurants. While living in Paris we always took our visitors here to soak up the artistic ambiance. Back then there were more real artists painting there and selling their art. We have some of these paintings hanging in our home.

By Genna's request we paid a visit to the Espace Dali  just off the square. This gem of a museum has mostly, sculptures, watercolors, drawings and sketches by the prolific, quirky, surrealist, Salvatore Dali.

Illustrations for Romeo and Juliet.

The snail and the angel.
I love is melting clocks.
I must say I enjoyed this much more than I thought I would. I like his illustrations and sculptures more than his paintings.

Sacre Coeur was our next stop after I found sandwiches for lunch.

Truly an impressive structure. We sat on the steps to enjoy the sun and our lunch.

Post prandial people watching.
Souvenir sellers abound some not legal. We witnessed one such fellow being chased and detained by these Parisian "gendarmes aux bicyclette".

Strange how this trip is all about cemeteries...yes, we found another one: Montmartre Cemetery.

Love the sadness portrayed by this sculpture.
Bob was excited to find Foucault's grave.
Here rests Alexander Duma, writer extraordinaire.

This cemetery had a very active cat population, we are guessing they are feral but well fed by some little old French cat ladies.

On our walk home from the metro we saw this Parisian flower shop. They are everywhere and so beautifully displayed.

Genna and I discovered the joys of crepe with "creme de marrons", chestnut cream.

Dinner was our go to menu: cheese, bread, steamed vegetables and salad.
